NIMHANS Recruitment 2026: The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bengaluru has released an official notification for its 2026 recruitment. Educational Qualifications
The required educational qualifications vary according to the post under National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences Recruitment 2026:
Senior Scientific Assistant:
First or Second Class Master’s Degree in Life Sciences with 2 years of research experience in Biological Sciences or Molecular Biology.
EEG Technician:
Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology Technology
OR B.Sc. in Physics / Electronics / Computer Science.
B.Sc. graduates must have 2 years of experience in a relevant laboratory.
Library Assistant:
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized university.
Stenographer Grade–II:
Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university.
Must have shorthand speed of 80 words per minute for 10 minutes and computer transcription skills.
Junior Secretarial Assistant:
Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline and completion of a 6-month computer course.
Medical Records Technician:
Degree in Science and training in a Medical Records Technician course.
Assistant Instructor (Panchakarma):
SSLC / 10th pass with a one-year certificate course in Panchakarma and 2 years of experience.
Hospital Assistant & Barber:
SSLC / 10th pass.
For the Barber post, 2 years of professional experience is required.
Age Limit & Relaxation
The age limit will be calculated as on the last date of application submission:
- Senior Scientific Assistant: Maximum 35 years
- EEG Technician & Library Assistant: Maximum 30 years
- All other Group C posts: Maximum 27 years
Age Relaxation (as per Government rules):
- SC / ST candidates: 5 years
- OBC candidates: 3 years
- Persons with Disabilities (PwBD): Up to 10 years

Salary Details
Selected candidates will be paid according to the respective Pay Levels based on the post:
- Senior Scientific Assistant, EEG Technician, Library Assistant: Pay Level 6
- Artist, Photographer: Pay Level 5
- Stenographer, Assistant Instructor, Medical Records Technician: Pay Level 4
- Junior Secretarial Assistant: Pay Level 2
- Hospital Assistant, Barber: Pay Level 1
Salary will be as per Central Government pay matrix along with admissible allowances.
Application Fee
The application fee (inclusive of GST) must be paid online.
For Group B Posts:
- General / OBC / EWS: ₹1,180
- SC / ST: ₹885
For Group C Posts:
- General / OBC / EWS: ₹885
- SC / ST: ₹590
Candidates with 40% or more disability are exempted from payment of the application fee.
Selection Process
The recruitment process will be conducted in two stages:
Stage 1: Written Examination
- Objective-type (MCQ) test for 100 marks
- Duration: 90 minutes
- Language of exam: English only
- Each correct answer carries 1 mark
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer
Stage 2: Skill Test / Document Verification
- Candidates qualifying in Stage 1 will be called for skill test or document verification.
- For the Stenographer post, a mandatory shorthand skill test will be conducted, and the marks obtained will be considered for the final merit list.
Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- General / EWS: 40%
- OBC: 35%
- SC / ST / PwBD: 30%
